Ticks all the boxes
We had the pleasure of staying at the very impressive Martinique for a week in August. This was a very special occasion as we were hosting some dear friends from overseas and we wanted to show off Australia and the Whitsundays to them. This was such an important event that we also did a flying visit in June to research and plan our trip because if you believe everything you read in Trip Advisor then every ones resort is “the best ever” and the top two or three are just “perfect” all of the time. Let me tell you that this is not necessarily the case and share my experience with you.
1) The Views. Airlie Beach is such a pretty place and the views were critical for us. We had a large private balcony with where we just sat and stared at the outlook. There are many resorts with good views, some are just too far away into the distance though.
2) The Rooms. Built in the old style with high ceilings and space in the bedrooms. Fully equipped kitchens, big screen TV, air con in every room, very clean and comfortable but we spent most of our time on the wonderful balcony.
3) Peace and Quiet. This is a young persons party town at night and we need our sleep. The main street is very loud both with traffic and party noise and there is a construction site at the bottom end. Avoid anywhere on or near the main road if you don’t like noise. Martinique is at the top of a one way road so virtually no traffic and no noisy revellers staggering past in the early hours.
4) The Hill. It’s only a hill, not a mountain and with the elevation comes the views. If you don’t want to walk it, catch a cab. It cost us about $3.60 for four of us to get a cab back to Martinique. One thing though, we really did appreciate the elevator at Martinique after climbing never ending stairs when looking at other resorts.
5) The Pool. Without doubt the best resort pool in town. We also made very good use of the two heated spas next to the pool – a great place to relax after a day at the reef.
6) The Managers. Without doubt again, the friendliest managers in town. The resorts in town seem to be either husband and wife teams or larger operations with staff. Generally there is a “take it or leave it” attitude at most front desks but our first impressions with Ashley and Lynn was that they really went out of their way to show us around and answer our questions. As our holiday unfolded they just did more and more for us – Lynn even did some shopping for us at the supermarket when she heard we were low on supplies.
We also had some fantastic tours – we highly recommend Mantaray for a Whitehaven Beach trip and some wonderful dining as well – ask about Fish Devine and try the prawns for entrée followed by a main of grilled mackerel.
Like I said at the beginning, Martinique ticked all of our boxes. I’m not into criticising other resorts, and that’s why I haven’t mentioned any other names, but I suggest that those that have a lot of glowing reviews that read like a paid advertisement probably are just that. We put in a lot of ground work looking at other places in Airlie Beach and we are so glad we chose to stay here.
Great Overall Accommodation
We recently travelled to the Whitsundays with a number of our best clients to explore the islands, using Martinique as a base for over three weeks. The clients themselves, 25 in total, were mostly well travelled so we had to find accommodation that not only suited our needs but was of excellent standard. We believed this was the case with Martinque.
The accommodation itself is big, roomy, with all the facilities we needed plus spectacular views across Airlie and the bay.
The infinity pool, and view from it - amazing.
The position, although up the steep hill, was great for our clients to just walk to town and our frequent dinners in the main strip.
The price was very reasonable - given we had everything we wanted and more at such a great location.
But the best aspect was the staff, especially managers Ashley and Lynn. Ashley was a wealth of local knowledge and information, even in the weeks before we arrived he had arranged transfers etc to suit our needs. While there, he couldn't have been more accommodating in making sure we had everything we needed so we could focus on our clients. I am a ridiculously early riser and Lynn was always the first person I saw, starting her day pre-dawn and also making sure we had everything we needed.
This is the sort of service that the "big" hotels wouldn't have a clue about and made what could have been a very stressful journey for us run like clockwork.
Overall, we can't wait to come back next year and many of our clients feel the same way.
“We fell in love with the Martinique”
We fell in love with the Martinique. My wife and children were very fortunate to stay in the 3 bedroom penthouse overlooking the sparkling pool, Airlie Beach and Whitsunday Islands (and new Port of Airlie - still under construction). What a view!!!!! We wish we never had to leave. The room was very spacious with two separate living areas (great for the kids), a dining room, outdoor area and full balcony. The infinity pool and spa were great for the kids. It was just a great place to have a holiday.
There are no restaurant facilities but we had a fully self contained kitchen and we also ate down at the cosmopolitan Airlie Beach. There is a steep hill up to the units however this makes for such a spectacular view. We only walked it once, it is only a $2 taxi ride up the hill.
The managers were very helpful and were able to recommend and book our trips to the islands and reef. We had a personal flight to Whithaven Beach and Hill Inlet which must be the most beautiful beach in the world.
The Martinique was a great place to stay. The rooms were large, the pool was great, the view is amazing, we loved it. Any time I go back to Airlie Beach we'll being staying at the Martinique.
Martinique Manifique!
Our stay at Martinique was fantastic from the beginning to the end. Although the resort was billed as 4* we found the standard much higher. Beautiful styled apartments with luxury infinity pool and the best views in Airlie Beach by far! The owners Ashley and Lyn made us very welcome and extremely helpful on good honest advice on day trips out to the other island. The Martinique is perfect for families or couples and we will defiantly be back to stay again. Joe & Sam England
5-Star Service...Amazing Hotel
The best service of any hotel in all of Australia. I traveled around central and eastern Australia for 6 weeks...mostly staying at 3 & 4-star hotels. Martinique Whitsunday provided the best service and greatest value by far. The owners go out of their way to accommodate you and assist in any way possible. Rooms have beautiful views and are very spacious. Pool area is breathtaking. This is definitely worth the walk up the steep hill. Highly recommended.
